The course will take place outdoors as long as weather allows. After that, we will work in the studio from sketches we previously made at Rosetta Gardens. Plein Air painting is an exciting method of painting outdoors directly from your subject to express the fleeting effects of light, structure, colour. The small, but mighty 8 by 10 sketch has a tremendous ability to hold vitality because of its small size which naturally highlights confident and bold painterly approaches. It is suitable for small trips and for on hikes and relaxing visits to the park. This class will introduce the 8 by 10 format and some modern working methods of the Impressionists and Group of Seven that will help you express your own experiences in nature. The outdoor sessions in this class will take place in the beautiful Rosetta Gardens. Individual support for personal aesthetics and for thematic concerns will be addressed in class and on-site while painting. The mighty 8x10 format will unleash your confidence propel your practice to journey into landscape painting. Let's get started!
