Drawing for Beginners

If you’ve always wanted to learn how to draw or improve your existing drawing skills, but don’t know where to begin, this course may be perfect for you.

In a hands-on studio environment, you will learn essential skills in drawing. Working mainly from observation, you will learn how to record and articulate what you see using line, tone and texture in order to achieve a sense of form, depth, distance and movement. You will be introduced to various drawing techniques such as gestures, contour, perspective and foreshortening, proportion measurements, tonal value scale and more. When necessary, instruction may be adapted to help you further develop technically as well as conceptually.

Emphasis will be on traditional subject matter and approaches to drawing. Samples and references will be shown and discussed. A small class size allows for plenty of one-to-one with your instructor, which is an important part of this course. A materials list may be provided.

Class Time: Thursday, 7:00pm – 10:00pm |   CLOSED

Course Length: 9 weeks (January 7 – March 9)

Fee: $432 +HST
