Our journey begins thousands of years ago, exploring the rich history of iconic art, craft, architecture, and design—learning about the intricate patterns, imagery and motifs inspired by nature and mythology that were used to adorn everyday objects and places—pots, coins, costume, homes and temples. Our search will take us to modern times, where we will meet some famous artists and discover their fascinating art work.

Introduction to Sculpting

For kids 6–9 years
Class Time: 1:00pm–3:30pm

With Jeremy Stellato

This course will introduce you to a wide variety of media and techniques for producing 2D and 3D sculpture.

You will have a great time in this hands-on course creating original sculptures using techniques such as wood carving as well as plaster, clay and plasticine modelling. With the guidance of your teacher you will improve your 3D thinking and planning abilities, dexterity and hand-eye coordination. You will also use natural materials you find outside to create imaginative landscapes and other 3D works. Printmaking and layering are other ways to explore 2D forms that students will engage in as they explore the relationship between the two realms.

This course is especially recommended for students who intend to take Portfolio Building in the future.
