Independent Studio

Open to students of all levels, this course is for those who wish to work independently in a hands-on, studio-based setting on various subject matter. Each student will get personal attention and feedback, and instruction/demonstration will be provided when needed. One-on-one mentoring, as well as class critiquing, is an important part of the course.

Abstract Painting

This course will provide an opportunity for the development of your abstract painting skills and techniques, as well as a deeper understanding of abstract concepts. You will work with an instructor who has decades of abstract painting and exhibiting experience. Small class sizes allow for a mentoring approach and one-on-one instruction to help you gain confidence and excellence. A materials list will be provided.

Drawing & Painting from Photographs

It is not simple to paint from a photograph, as the result is often a disappointing flatness and dullness. This course teaches what it takes to translate a photo image into a painting composition. You will learn hands-on how to “read” the photo, and how to select and correctly interpret the visual information captured by the camera. Previous drawing and painting experience is a plus, but it’s not a requirement for this course. A materials list will be provided.

Adventures in Acrylic

This course is for those who wish to learn and improve their acrylic painting technique in a mentoring studio environment. One-on-one attention and feedback will help students articulate their own ideas in an acrylic medium. Development of a personal style along with improvements in technique is the main goal of this course. New materials will be introduced, and techniques demonstrated. You will gain a greater confidence in using acrylic, and in painting in general. A materials list will be provided.

We will examine the work of established and well-known photographers to identify the factors that make their work outstanding. By the end of the course, you will have begun to develop a portfolio of your own photography and some ideas about how to take your photography to the next level.
